Frequently Asked Questions
Which remedy?
When choosing a remedy, first note the important symptoms experienced by the patient and then select a medicine with a similar “symptom picture”. A very small dose of this remedy is then administered to stimulate healing. Homeopathic medicines are considered safe to use and generally will not contraindicate the medicines prescribed by your doctor.
The guidelines are for the treatment of simple and acute complaints. In the case of serious accidents or emergencies, seek medical attention immediately.
How to take a dose?
Dosing in homeopathy applies to infants, children, adults, and the elderly. Unlike pharmaceutical medications, homeopathic doses do not depend on age but rather on how often they are given. Each dose stimulates the body’s healing response.
To take a dose, put 1-2 drops into a clean water bottle (ideally glass) with about 500ml of water. Shake the bottle well to mix the remedy with the water, then sip from it for further doses. This method works well for conditions that need repeated dosing. If needed, prepare a new bottle daily.
For infants who can’t swallow much, mix 1-2 drops of the remedy in a small amount of water, then use a syringe or spoon to give tiny doses. Make sure to wet the mouth but does not need to be enough to swallow. Repeat for infants as you would for adults—every 15 minutes for severe conditions and every 4 hours or daily for moderate cases.
Frequency of dosing is more important than the quantity of the remedy in Homeopathy. Enough to wet the mouth is considered a good dose - especially for newborn babies and children.
Do not let the dropper touch your mouth to avoid contamination.
What’s is a succussion?
A succussion is tapping the bottle against your palm before each dose. Follow the exact instructions for how many taps to do. For acute dosing a water bottle shake bottle vigorously when you have dispensed remedy. Succussion is part of making homeopathic remedies stronger. It involves repeatedly diluting and shaking the remedy. The more times this is done, the more powerful the remedy is believed to become. This process changes the substance from a physical form to an energetic one, to help trigger the body's natural healing.
Breastfeeding/formula/juice:
We recommend that you do not add to milk, juice, or breast milk. In this case and especially with infants, please create the remedy in the bottle as advised above. Shake and take a syringe or teaspoon to dose directly into their mouth. Again, enough to just wet the mouth is considered a good dose.
Under the tongue:
You can dose a couple of drops directly under the tongue. This means the doses won’t go as far as if diluted and sipped from a water bottle so keep that in mind for longevity of your kit.
Finding the right remedy:
When choosing a remedy, first note the important symptoms experienced by the patient and then select a medicine with a similar “symptom picture”. A very small dose of this remedy is then administered to stimulate healing.
How often to dose:
With homeopathy, we aim to match the frequency of dosing with the intensity of the condition. For intense conditions, such as a fever or a burn, dosing frequently, such as every 15 mins to an hour is ideal. For moderate conditions, dosing every 4 hours is preferred. As the condition starts to improve, slow down or consider stopping dosing
Classical/Acute Ailments:
Our first aid kits are designed for the treatment of simple and acute complaints. In the case of serious accidents or emergencies seek professional help immediately. Chronic ailments (eg. eczema asthma etc) will require an appoinment for deeper work.
Potency:
The potencies of the medicines in this kit are typically stronger than those bought in a health food store or online. In a First Aid prescription, these stronger potencies are often much more effective. As these medicines are strong, they are not to be used for prolonged periods of time, except under the guidance of a homeopath.
These remedies are kept in a high concentration of alcohol, which will preserve them for a minimum of 2 years.
How to store your kit:
Please store out of direct sunlight, in a cool place away from electronic devices.
Other medications:
Homeopathic medicines are considered safe to use from newborn, pregnancy and of all ages and will typically not contraindicate the medicines prescribed by your doctor.
If you are concerned, please book an appointment or seek medical advice.
